There has been a prominent presence of South Asians in Hong Kong since the days of the 19th century, which explains the city’s rich Hindu heritage.
This Hindu temple in Happy Valley is a chief focal point for the religious and social activities of Hong Kong’s 40,000 Hindus. It also serves as a centre for meditation, spiritual lectures, yoga classes and the observance of major Hindu festivals, such as Diwali and Dussehra. Hindu engagement and marriage ceremonies are a regular sight here, while devotional music sessions and religious discourses are held every Sunday morning and Monday evening. A free community meal follows the Sunday sessions. The temple also administers the Hindu crematorium at Cape Collins.
